Alternative Swim Sessions

Whilst Weymouth swimming pool is closed, avail yourself of the Masters sessions held by West Dorset Warriors.

They are 8:30pm to 10pm on Monday and Thursday nights at the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre in Dorchester.

Coach is Dave Hewitt and the cost is £3.40 payable to the front desk - you don't have to be a member of Warriors to take part.

Weymouth swimming pool closed

Both pools have closed due to a serious boiler failure.

There is no indication of when it may reopen; rumour is that the boiler requires replacement and that may take weeks.

Both the Weymouth Council site and that of SLM (who manage the pool) have similar notices about the closure; click on the links to get updated information.

Lough Erne Entry Form

Open Water Events

In particular, the annual Exmouth Fairway Buoy is on Sunday 13th June, the new Seahorse swim is at Studland on Sunday 27th June and the ASA South West championships are confirmed for the 3rd & 4th July at Greenhill.

There's only been 20 entry forms received so far for the second block of this year's Dorset ASA Masters Championships to be held on the 21st March at Rossmore.

Unless considerably more are received by the closing date of this Saturday, the gala will be cancelled.

Masters Swimsuit Rules

Whilst there were rumours that the swimsuits rules that apply from January 1st 2010 would be relaxed for Masters events, it has been announced that that will not be the case.

In summary, you can only wear one costume, it must be of textile fabric and you can't have zips etc. For men, the legal suit coverage is above the knee and below the navel. For women, above the knee and below the neck, not covering arms or shoulders.

These rules will be applied at the upcoming Dorset 1500/800m races.

Dorset ASA Long Distance Championships

Entries for the 1500/800m events to be held at Littledown on the 20th February close mid-day Saturday 30th January.

Entries received after this date will only be accepted if there is a spare lane available.

Valentine Gala Cancelled

This year's Valentine Gala to be held on February 7th at Osprey Leisure Centre has regretfully been cancelled due to the lack of entries, possibly related to the recent spell of bad weather.

All entry fees will be returned in due course.

The gala will be run next year and Weyport Masters SC hopes it can count on your continued support.

Training times over Christmas and New Year

All sessions are running as normal except for Saturday 26th December and Wednesday 30th December, both at Weymouth Pool - these are NOT on.

You can get some extra training in by swimming Weymouth harbour on Christmas morning!

Bob on the Telly!

Our very own Bob Holman can be seen in a new, two part ITV series "Robson Green's Wild Swimming Adventures".

The first episode is tomorrow night, Tuesday 8th December at 9pm with the second and final episode the following Tuesday 15th.

XMAS Day Swim

Several of us will be doing the Lions Club charity swim on Christmas morning.

Registration is normally at the yacht club on Custom House Quay from 10am.

I'll add the specifics here when I get them but it will probably start at 11am.

The entry form for next year's Dorset ASA Masters Championships are now available - click on the competition in Events -> Pool.

Note that the 1500m/800m are being held as part of the normal DCASA Championships at Littledown rather than a Masters only event.

The remaining races are at a Masters gala at Rossmore a month later.

The provisional date for the South West Open Water Championships is also on the event list.

Next year's RN gala will be held on the 28th March at Millfield (using short course rather than the full 50m).

Kevin Flint

Kevin recently trained with us and competed in the Hyde Park Paratriathlon a couple of weeks back.

He was 1st Brit out of the water, 3rd Brit across the line and 1st Brit in his classification, but unfortunately was out of the medals finishing in 6th place overall.
